Ask any consumer what kind of credit cards they would like to carry, and the answer is undoubtedly “low interest credit cards.” While a low interest credit card most certainly has its allure, the sad truth is that some of the low interest rate credit cards are nothing but bare bones. They offer the façade of great credit cards with low interest rates, but when you come right down to it, they offer very little more than your average debit. Generally speaking, their credit limits are low, convenience checks are either non-existent or only available at exorbitant rates, and the lack of incentives, such as airline miles and rebate offers, make many a low interest rate credit card little more than a shadow of the real deal.
Add to this the insult that a credit card low interest rate is oftentimes only temporary and suddenly adjust to a much higher amount due, and you will find that the list of low interest credit cards that are worth your while is shrinking precariously. While this may tempt you to completely forego your research into credit cards, low interest rates and also great incentives, it is important to understand that while true low interest credit cards may be hard to find, they are out there!
To this end, carefully read through the applications for so called low interest credit cards that you may be interested in applying for. Is the company offering a special low interest business credit card which is treated than a personal one? If so, you might profit by signing up for it! Similarly, are the low interest credit cards you are considering governed by an index for future interest rate hikes? If so, you will want to know the name of the index and take a look at the performance. If it appears that these low interest credit cards thusly tied will soon spike their interest rates, you have the option of either negotiating a low rate when the time comes – and the company may say no – or simply pay it off and cancel it at that time.
Last but not least any credit card, low interest rate notwithstanding, should offer you something. Rebates, refunds, credits, and airline miles are just a few of the incentives that even low interest credit card rates should not deny you. Thus, the best low interest credit cards are the ones that combine an incentive, a ceiling beyond which the rate will not rise, and an attentive customer service center. Low credit cards with interest rates that are nothing but teasers should be avoided whenever possible.
